With expertise and compassion, SLUCare delivers advanced care for breast cancer and benign breast disease
Breast cancer and non-cancerous breast abnormalities can happen to women and men of any age. SLUCare Physician Group offers expertise and advanced technologies for your breast health, from diagnosis to treatment to follow-up care.
SLUCare breast surgical oncologist Dr. Kaitlin Farrell is specially trained not only to perform breast cancer surgeries, such as lumpectomy or mastectomy, but to address all types of breast conditions that may be helped with surgical intervention. As your surgeon, Dr. Farrell will discuss your condition and treatment options with you, and together, you'll plan a path forward for care.
As part of an academic medical practice, SLUCare Breast Surgery offers the latest advances in treatment, such as Magseed technology – a new, less invasive approach to marking the breast lesion in preparation for surgery, improving patient comfort and convenience.

Partnering for better breast care
Our breast surgeons work closely with a fellowship-trained team of SLUCare radiologists who specialize in breast imaging. Unlike general radiologists, breast radiologists have particular expertise in identifying abnormalities of breast tissue, even in dense breasts where problems can be challenging to diagnose.
SLUCare breast radiologists use a variety of techniques — mammograms, ultrasound, breast MRI, image-guided biopsy, stereotactic biopsy and more — to accurately diagnose breast abnormalities in patients. When a cancer diagnosis is confirmed, our breast radiologists connect patients with our breast surgeons and other specialists to provide comprehensive care in accordance with the patient’s individual needs.
Our team of breast experts includes:
- Breast radiologists
- Breast surgeon
- Medical oncologist
- Radiation oncologists
- Genetic counselor
- Breast reconstruction surgeons
Early detection is key to beating breast cancer
If you are 40 or older, talk to your health care provider about beginning regular mammogram screenings.
If you have a family history of breast cancer, your doctor may recommend screenings beginning at an earlier age or consultation with a genetic counselor to determine your predisposition for the disease.
If you notice physical abnormalities, like a change in skin color, nipple discharge or a mass that wasn't there previously, schedule an exam with your personal physician right away and discuss your options for diagnosis via breast imaging.
